Kaul received a Master of Fine Arts degree in digital animation and video from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with undergraduate studies in English, art, and photography at California State University, Sacramento and James Madison University in Virginia. After completing her formal education, she held digital animation internships at Omnibus located at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and at Real Time Design in Chicago. As a production assistant at Digital Effects, Inc. in NY—the first computer animation company in the US—she handled post production operations for computer-animated commercials. As an adjunct assistant professor at Cal State LA, she taught 3D modelling. Later, at Mississippi State University, she was an assistant professor in a Graduate Program for Electronic Visualization, where she founded a professional chapter of the Special Interest Group for Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.
Additionally, Kaul publishes peer-reviewed articles on brainwave learning and gaming and has been an invited speaker to France, Australia, and the UK—where she presented her gaming research at the Dana Center Museum of Science in London. More recently, Kaul assumed a position at MindSpec, Inc., a nonprofit company that utilizes innovative bioinformatics strategies to accelerate research on common neurodevelopmental disorders. There she worked with scientists doing research related to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). As a former Director of Web Communications at George Mason University, she received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2005. She has been interviewed for Studio 360, With Good Reason Radio, Gamasutra’s Game Career Guide, GMU-TV, and Mason’s English Matters.
Kaul has used neurofeedback analysis to collect data before and after a variety of integrative healing modalities, such as acupuncture, meditation, tai chi chuan, qigong, floating in Samadhi tanks, and medical qigong treatments. Currently, she is working with a new BCI and integrating neurofeedback controlled animation into a Virtual Reality gaming environment.
